Hi There

I would start by starting to juice fruit and vegetables. Carrot and apple are a favorite for most people. Use more apple in the beginning until they get used to it. I would also mix in some distilled water with it. Our bodies assimulate liquid faster (within seconds its in the blood). than eating (digesting takes awhile and doesnt use all the nutrients).

I also use a product called Superfood and you can check it out herbdoc.com. It also is nutrient based product that assimulates quickly in the bloodstream.

Best of health to both of you

I have the same condition. It is not always a result of Hypoglycemia. There are numerous reasons for it. I am 30 and the on set for me was anorexia in my teens and now I have numerous hormonal issues. I have seen several Dr's about it and none can pin point the cause. All do say to drink juices and keep hydrated. If she is on any lasiks that can also result in low potassium. Also, make sure she is on a potassium supplement. Low potassium can result in heart attach or stroke of which I experienced over the summer.

Low potassium in the blood (hypokalemia) may result from many different conditions. The most common cause is excessive potassium loss in the urine or from the gastrointestinal tract, such as due to:

Use of diuretics
Impaired kidney function
Excessive production of the hormone aldosterone (hyperaldosteronism) by the adrenal gland
Excessive use of laxatives
Eating disorders
Severe vomiting or diarrhea
Rarely, hypokalemia is due to not getting enough potassium in your diet.

Potassium is an electrolyte that is critical to the function of nerve and muscles cells, including those in your heart. Most of the potassium in your body is inside your cells. So the levels of potassium in your blood may not reflect your total body potassium.

Signs and symptoms of low potassium may include:

Weakness
Fatigue
Muscle cramps
Constipation
Abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias)
Treatment is directed at the underlying cause of the low potassium and may include potassium supplements. A very low potassium level is life-threatening.

Is she losing a great deal of bodily fluid? Excessive urination, vomiting or perspiration? I can't help but wonder if it's something hormonal or glandular. I'm sure your Dr. has looked into that already.

The only help I can offer at this time until I study on it a while, is tell her to eat bananas, they are loaded. Also, you can buy liquid potassium at your local pharmacy. It tastes nasty but maybe it will help until the problem is found. God Bless and hope she is well soon.

I don't understand, if she has all her potassium that she needs tonight will she wake in the morning with no potassium, is this what your saying?

I don't have any potassium, or very little, I'm plagued with "charlie horses" all the time, they throw me out of bed at night they're so bad. Does she go through this? I take potassium in the morning and I'm O.K. now Maybe you can explain it a little better for us.

While I would think that the doctors would have checked all of this, here are some ideas:
1. She is vomitting or has diarrhea
2. She is on a mediction (think OTC's and herbals as well as Rx's) that wipes the potassium from her system - ex - a diuretic
3. She is drinking too much water
4. She has kidney problems
