" I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." - Gandhi

The Mahatma was leading a peaceful reisistance to British rule in India. He saw the injustice perpetrated on the citizens of India. Much like the injustice in South Africa.

In my opinion, Jesus would not have approved of slavery or bigotry. He wanted all of us to love others as we love ourselves. How can a book be so revered when it goes against the teachings of Jesus?

That is my point Lespaul. Did he? Or was it Paul who condoned slavery and bigotry?

Actually, Jesus condoned slavery in the New Testament.

Edit: Well, if you're not going by the New Testament (or "Paul's writings"), then you are left with nothing, because the next earliest historical accounts of Jesus were written by authors born decades after his alleged crucifixion.

In other words, there is actually no contemporary and reliable historical evidence supporting the existence of Jesus Christ, which makes this a moot point.

What I'm trying to say is this: why trust that all of the good things about Jesus must be true, while all the bad things must be products of Paul?

Oh, and I also forgot to mention that Ghandi was prejudiced against blacks. That is one of those little historical quirks that isn't mentioned very much.

Im not sure I know which book you're talking about but I will assume its the Bible? (Correct me with an email if Im wrong :) )

I like Ghandi personally and I am also a Christian. Something he said has actually helped me "form" my walk in Faith. Ghandi admired Jesus and His ministry though he was not a Christian. He said once "I was going to become a Christian, until I met some".. WOW! Point well taken you know? What he said made me look at myself, am I the type of Christian who would make someone not want to be one? I think all Christians should ask themselves that.

Also, if you are reffering to the Bible as being against the teachings of Christ, it isnt. Jesus never preached against having slaves, but reinforced the command to treat them respectfully if you have them. The Bible is much more understandable if you read it cover to cover and dont just book hop. You can pick up ANY book and lose the whole meaning if you only look at parts. It is not 2 different books, it is one complete book. Beginning, middle and end. The first half shows us what is Holiness, and justice for being unholy, the 2nd half is to show us Mercy, what God wants to give us and what He wants us to show for eachother.

Gandhi is right. The Christ, Jesus, was right but the followers who wanted their benefit to interpretation of bible. In Bible; Iberham has 12 sons became 12 strip in Iseal and Levi strip were not granted land for their income. They were priest/godfather, the media in between god and people. The communication should through these priest/father and the contribution will be their income. Since Jesus said the curtain of church was dropped, the communication between god and people need not to have media. so the Levi were lose their jobs. They denied Jesus christ.

Jesus done is right but the followers were not. Nowaday, the christian party almost the superinsitution party. Can I acept those christians?

Well, even the most faithful hearted christian can't be as patient and heavenly minded as Jesus was. Most christians are extremely unlike Him in almost every aspect imaginable. The point of Jesus dying as a sacrificial lamb on the altar of the cross was so that, if a person accepts the fact that Jesus died for their transgressions and believes in it whole heartedly they will receive the promise of the baptism of the Holy Spirit which will empower you to live a life that pleases God. Once you've accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and decide to live for Him, God the Father will now see Jesus in your place when ever He looks at you. Jesus live and died according to the will of the Father, which is perfect.

Isn't it the politically correct thing to say, Christians are hypocrites?
Lets replace it with Atheists and see if people still agree.
God Bless

poor guy never met Christians...
However, if he heared of Christ (and apparently liked his teachings) and did not accept Christ's claims... he is not excused.
It's about response to Jesus, not to people.
