Co-dependency is more of a "pop" psychology term rather than a diagnosis. It is a learned behavior, not a condition that afflicts you like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. However, it is possible to have other conditions in addition to being in co-dependent relationships. These difficulties develop during childhood and continue to be reinforced into adulthood. There are some great ways to begin to gain insight into your problem. But let me be very clear here, you can only address YOUR problem. You can't change anyone else's behavior, you can only set appropriate limits with your family and other relationships. Learning to do this effectively and appropriately is one of the keys to success.

Some of the top books on the topic are:

Co-dependent No More
by: Melody Beattie $10.85 on amazon.com

I Hate You Don't Leave Me
by: Jerold J. Kreisman and Hal Straus $7.99 on amazon.com

Of course, there is no substitute for psychotherapy with a psychologist as they can help you see the patterns and behaviors you might not be aware of.

Best of luck!

I recommend co-dependents anonymous, so you can recognise the problem, and more forward with your life.
I have limited experience of co-dependency, dealing with an recovering alcoholic mother and then my own addictions.
I'm glad you are seeking help, good luck to you.

Go to church to learn God's way of living a satisfying life.

In the Beginning God created heavens and earth.
God gives you air to breathe and sunshine to enjoy.
God gives you water to drink and food to eat.
God gives you a wonderful body and sound mind, to live.
God loves you, and you are precious to Him.
Son of God died on the Cross to save us from condemnation.
Jesus’ love is boundless and everlasting.
We have the hope of Heaven through Jesus.
Life therefore has fantastic and glorious future!
(Digestion of above can even prevent depression and suicidal thoughts.)
