If you're looking for a puppy try your local ASPCA or other such adoption site. The dogs are in need of homes and you wont spend an arm and a leg. PLUS, you can get one a few months old thats already housebroken.

Well, there is a great variety of pets, you should research medium sized dogs, and them when you are abbsolutly sure on the type of dog you want, get it from a private breeder, because pet stores usually sell puppies that are rejects from breeders, no on ewould buy it becuz of such and such reason. For medium sized dogs, i could suggest a few and you could see if they were the type of dog u want-
beagle,
schnauser
Lab mix
boxer
Medium sized poodle
golden retriever mix
any poodle mix
small mutt

A good site to check out is puppyfind.com, but you can check your local paper for classified ads or other websites, such as terrificpets.com or nextdaypets.com. If you're looking for a small to medium sized dog, I suggest that you narrow your search to breeds that are relative in size to American Eskimos, Terriers, and the Spitz family. I have a miniature American Eskimo and I absolutely love him. Their breed only grows to be about 20lbs. so they're great indoor dogs. But puppyfind.com can help you out a lot, since the search bar allows you to sort your search by size.

If you are interested in getting a puppy in your surrounding area I would definetly look in the online newspaper or paper. That is the best way to find one. You can also find lots of breeders online and adoption sites as well.

Dear Abby - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't BUY a dog. Go to your local shelter and rescue a homeless animal. There are so many dogs and cats that are literally dying for a good home. Many shelters have purebreds as well as "mutts" that have been spayed or neutered, gotten all their shots, are in good health and the shelter can help you find just what you're looking for. As the "mother" of a rescued cat, I can tell you the rewards of saving an animal are never-ending. Happy Holidays from - Lil Geo's mommy!

how old are you? are you responsible enough for the animal? puppies take a lot of time and money to care for them. will you walk it every time it needs to go out? buy food, toys, etc? take it to the vet. i suggest reading up on raising a dog, no matter what kind/size it is.

Dont purchase a puppy at a pet store. Give one a home that really needs from a shelter or rescue program. Try petfinder.com or go to your local animal shelter(ASPCA).
