I got a lovebird parrot. He keeps flying over to my christmas tree and sitting on the branches. It looks like he's snacking on it as I run at him screaming to get out of the tree. Is this ok, or should I keep him on lock down untill after christmas???

The tree might be coated with a fire retardant or something else toxic. They don't recommend letting the bird in the Christmas tree. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=15&cat=1912&articleid=3030

Lol, normally plants aren't TOO much of a problem, although you might want to research what types may be poisonous to lovebirds. I have a lovebird myself, and she loves to get over to the Tree, so during Christmas time we usually keep her either in a different room when she is out, or take her out minimally. Just in case there is some sort of chemical on the branches, and also because if he were to eat some tinsel...well, it wouldn't be a pleasant experience for either of you...you might want to be selective of what rooms you let him play in. I'd hate to tell you not to let him out as much, because my Spunky gets depressed when she doesn't get to come out and play. For his sake you could even put the tree up later in the year and take it down sooner if you do decide on Lovebird Lockdown. :p

Merry Christmas!
