Mine will one of my Shepherds actually stopped me from getting mugged. I didn't realize a man was coming up behind me and I was walking one of my boys and all at once he stopped moving forward and turned around with his hackles standing and started a deep growl. I turned around to see what he was growling at and the man that was behind me took off running. Lucky had had my boy with me that night.
He was not trained to do this, it was just instinct on his part.

German Shepherds are very good dogs for personal protection and almost everything else in a dog. I loved mine, and Tiny would have jumped off a ten story building if i needed her.
However, If you are depending on the instincts of the dog, you would be better off getting your pet trained to do just that, but it would have to be some good training. To an untrained dog, what is the difference between a lover that runs up and hugs or a mugger that runs up and holds you for the purpose of controlling you?

You must get a personal trainer and a trainer that has done training for security dogs if you live in Canada specifically Ontario I would choose K9 Solutions thats what I used to train my 7 month old German Shepherd who is now a year and a half.

It really depends on the dog. If they want to they will. If they don't they won't. No dogs are the same. I am pretty sure there is at least one German Shepherd out in this world that won't and will protect.

German shephards are often trained as police dogs and guard dogs, so they have that capability. Most people say that dogs that are raised as pets do not make good guard dogs. I am undert he impressionthat they are still dogs and you become a member of the pack. They protect there pack. So if they feel you are truely in danger, I believe they will protect you

That all depends on how the German Sheppard was raised or trained. If the puppy/dog was raised that way then yes it will attack the personthat bites you.Or if the German Sheppard wasn't raised like that, then your nearest pet store has that trining and you can get him/her trained.Good luck hun and God bless you.

I am a breeder and 2 of mine would; one wouldn't. My one female would attack if I told her to (been trained); the other would attack on instinct and her personality; my male would just run up to play with them!
