I doubt very much that you would be able to change
the spring by yourself. Also don't ask these bozos air gun
questions, I also doubt very much if they have much air gun
experience, execpt shooting their bb guns. Let alone tearing down a springer correctly and
safely. Do you have a spring compressor for the gun?
Because you don't just take it apart, there is a specific order on how to do it. Also you just don't "lube your gun well." If you get grease or oil in your chamber you can burn the piston seal. You just don't use any kind of "grease or oil" to lube the gun also. There is a special kind of moly that use use for the spring and in the piston chamber. Many rookies don't know this and ruin their guns because of this, I saw it many times, and then ask me to fix it. Sure I'll fix it, and it aint cheap. So before you get in over your head, like most of these rookies do, I suggest that you are prepared to dish out some bucks and have a pro do the tune for you. Not unless you want to get a compressed spring in your face and parts flying all over, which WILL happen.
By the way, what kind of gun is it?
Is it even worth tuning?
Because most of the tunes from the pros will start at $120.00 - 300.00 bucks. How much did you pay for your gun?
But if you want to try and do your own tune here's a link to
Jim Maccari, he makes the best high power springs in the world that all of us use, He dosen't make springs for cheap guns just to let you know.http://www.airguns.citymax.com/page/page/251327.htm
Don't get hurt or loose parts.

In a spring loaded pellet gun how do I increase "muzzle velocity"?
That's generally done by shooting light or ultra lightweight pellets.
Generally, the lighter the pellet, the higher the muzzle velocity.

I would suggest purchasing a better gun. Lube your gun well including the bore, also try higher quality ammunition for marginall velocity increases.

Simply change the charging spring, I don't know who told the genius above it's a crime to modify an air gun but it's not. Check on http://www.gunsprings.com/ for stronger springs, they sell mostly firearm replacement springs, but maybe someone in their service department could recommend a stronger spring for your air gun.

Pellets are far more accurate than bb's. Reason being is that bb's are shot from a smooth bore barrel, pellets are shot from a rifled barrel. A rifled barrel has "grooves" cut into it, giving a twist to it, like a firearm barrel. What this does is it gives the pellet a spiral, like a football being thrown. A bb is shot from a smooth bore. The reason for this is, a bb is steel and it would ware down the rifling in a rifled barrel. Some air guns can shoot bb's and pellets, but after a while the rifling is almost non existant. All air guns that can shoot both, are cheap. Most under a 120.00.
