When you are pregnent you must be eating the healthiest foods.
Never go on a low calorie diet for you will starve yourself and more importantly your rapidly growing baby.

First off, Congrats. It's an amazing experience, especially when the baby starts kicking.
ok, this is what my Dr. told me when I was pregnant.
1) lay off the caffine
2) ease on the chocolate because it has caffine
3) eat a good balanced diet
4) push your weight up about 25 pounds.
5) take your prenatal vitamins
Now, before you do any of this (well other than eating a good balanced diet) get yourself to the OBGYN Dr. Get good prenatal care.
If you're low on money and can't afford a Dr. then social services may be able to help you there. If you're income is low, they you can recieve medicaid. It helps. It paid for my Dr. visits when I was in need and my son's hospital stay. The only thing I ended up paying was $6 for an x-ray. And you get to keep medicaid for yours for a year after your baby is born. If I remember correctly.
Also, check into WIC (women infants and children) It helps you get good food that will help you nurish the baby. Then after the baby is born you can get formula, for the baby and I think also food. You can get WIC until the baby is 5 years old. If you're struggling for income it's a great help. I think it's provided through the health dept. Just give Social Services a call and they could probably tell you all the numbers if you ask.

firstly ENJOY!!!! I think the best diet for pregnant ladies is the best quality food you can find !! whatever you eat will be the nutrients your baby uses to grow beautifully....BIG opportunity to do the very best for yourself and your little one s health for the future ... Plenty of fresh fruit and veg, oats , wholegrains obviously some good protein and good fish for brain and nervous system development... Drink plenty of water too very important as you are dealing with waste products from the baby as well as your self.... It is really satisfying to be eating well not just for your own pleasure but for the benefit of your baby !! same goes while you are breastfeeding too

You should make sure you are getting enough folic acid and a good fish oil supplement may help your unborn baby's brain development. Pregnacare make a good supplement that contains all the stuff you need (apart from calcium and fish oil) and none of the stuff that may be harmful.
Talking of fish, you should avoid fish that contains mercury.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!
babycentre.co.uk is a good further source of information
