She also rolls around back and forth on her back on the living room carpet. It is December and cold (for Florida) so it can't be fleas, so what could it be?

Could be worms - some make the dog itchy, but it could also be impacted or infected anal glands. Could also be an allergy - oddly enough, in addition to contact type allergens, many food allergies can make the dog itchy. Best to see a vet in the near future, though it's probably not an emergency. Take in a stool sample when you go.

The butt rubbing is a pretty good indication of a worm infest-
ation.
The rolling back & forth on the carpet is pretty common at any
time of year. When done to an extreme, would be idicative of a
skin condtion, dry skin or something leading to a skin problem.
My thoughts would be that your terrier is lacking something in her
diet or perhaps the air in the house is a little too dry for her.
Don't know your bathing routine, but it's very important to get all
shampoo residue removed from her coat especially at this time
time of year. How does your scalp react at this time of year if you
do not get your hair thoroughly rinsed?
I'm inclined to think that your pup has a condition that should be
addressed by a vet.Generally speaking,bulls have an oily skin,so
dry skin should be an issue best brought before a proffessional.
Hope my input helps.

An allergy of some kind for the back rubbing however dogs do that for healthy and happy reasons also, but the butt rubbing is an effort to clean the area so that it stops etching. It also could be symtoms of a more unusual allergy so get it checked out if the behavior does not stop after the treatment.
You may, and I do not live there, have fleas in the carbet. Been there, done that!
Good Luck.

She may have built up an allergy to her food; she might have stopped up anal glands; her skin might be dry if the humidity in the house has been greatly decreased; if you've been using some new household spray (like Febreeze) on the furiture and carpets, she may be allergic to that, too...

Take her to her vet and have him check her out. He can express the anal glands if that's the problem, and can do tests to see if there's something irritating her skin.

My Bostons used to do the same. It is normal. They like to scratch even if they do not have fleas. The butt thing may be something they ate.. Sometimes they eat hair and it doesn't clear total when they have a stool. Then you have the fun of chasing them around with Kleenex. Fun, they don't like it much either.

you could have mites in the carpet or could be marking her territory, in (Australia). Where I live,it is December and it is very hot here because it is Summer hereYou can get fleas in the house or room by them bringing it in from outside in the yard, ever thought she might have Worms.

Her anal glands may be bothering her. My dog rubbed her butt on the floor a lot and I mentioned it to my vet and her anal glands were full. They did an anal sac expression. Basically they squeezed the stuff out of them. She is better now. Hopefully this information will help you.

My guess would be skin allergies. My golden does the same thing. Take her to the vet and they can give her meds or a shot to help relieve the itching. Good luck!

A dogs body is much warmer than the December cold, so, it very well could be fleas. Have you tried searching for them on her body? If that's not the problem, maybe she just finds your carpet sexy. ;)

When dogs rub their butts on things most of the time it means they need to get their anal glands expressed
