Rule of three's
You can survive
3 minutes without air
3 days without water
3 weeks without food

This is just a general rule as some people would survive for a longer or shorter time.

You saw the story on the TV about the oregon couple... he died and his wife and babies survived. I watched the news tonight and it told us of another man who 5 years ago got stranded on that same stretch of road. He stayed in his truck camper, but without food... and he lasted 66 days. He weighted 240 when he got stuck... lost over 100 lbs or more...before he died according to the journal he left behind. He died of starvation, not from exposure.

Given an ample supply of water you can survive from 7 days to several weeks, depending on your body weight and composition when you begin.

You can go about 3 months without food. Christ fasted 40 days on water. The difference is when it stops being a fast and becomes starvation, when the healthy tissue is now being used as opposed to the cleansing out of dead tissue and toxins. Body weight, of course, contributes to the duration, but it is usually about 3 months.

I work in a hospital and when someone on dialysis decides not to continue and they just want to go on, they stop eating. They normally last up to almost 2 weeks or less. They are already deconditioned due to their illness.
