No, you do not need a prescription, but I'm not sure about the effectiveness of the pills either. Usually the vinegar itself, liquid form, is supposed to be more effective. I've never tried the pill form.
Now, my grandmother in law swore by apple cider vinegar for her arthritus. She'd take 1 tablespoon of it a day in a glass of water.

No, you don' need a prescription. Walmart has them in the same section as diet pills (Hoodia, Stackers, etc.)
