There should be no difference in temperment between the Staffordshire Bull Terrier (SBT), the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) or the American Staffordshire Terrier.

The Staffy Bull (SBT) and the AmStaff (AST) are two seperate breeds however. Staffies are cousins of the APBT and AST and are much smaller. They very rarely top the 35lb mark and are kept strictly with natural ears.

Here are the standards from each registry on the breeds. The AST can be dual registered with the UKC as an APBT, however.

I know people with both breeds and I lean more toward Staffordshires. The raising of the dog is the most important factor. I saw a man making his pit bull pup drag 10lb weights behind his back legs and I wanted to beat that guy down. It's all about making sure your dog knows the master but not violently. When you first get your puppy hold him up in the air at your eye level while standing. Stare into the dogs eyes until he/she looks away and that lets the dog know that you are superior. Do not hit your dog. Just treat your dog with love and respect and either breed will be just fine for you.

well first off don't let anyone tell you they are the same they are two completely different breeds, the american pit is an awesome dog but you have to be firm with him you can make it into the most loving or the meanest dog, staffys have a very good temperment you still need to be firm with them but a nick name for the is the little nanny because they are so good with kids. good luck, if you have any more questions feel free to e-mail me.

I have a american Staffi cross with Australian cattle dog my dog had a go at a PitBull when I was walking it down on the beach once if my mind serves me well, they are related cousins but my dog gets on well with most dog around my area they haven't got different temperment if a dog hassles my dog he will go for it, he doesn't like being dominated or hassled. So to answer your question they have the same temperment and mood changes

Temperament isn't solely "breed-based"; its affected by the dog's individual genetic make up, its upbringing and the care / training it receives.
