I think I've hit paydirt for you! Here's a link to a page on the web that provides "A Concise History of America's Brewing Industry":

At the end of the article, there's a very lengthy bibliography, so you can fsome book titles there! In fact, there's one on the list that sounds really promising, "Brewed In America: A History of Beer and Ale in the United States," and it's available at Amazon.com!
