I can safely say that Jesus could not have been born in 1 AD. A.D means after the death or from the Latin Annuum Dominus, meaning Year of Death of the Lord.
Ceasar Augustus ruled the Roman Empire from 27 BC to 14 AD. According to Luke 2:1, Jesus was born during his reign in the historical context. According to Josephus, the Jewish historian, King Herod was still kicking in 1BC at the time of the infanticides, that King Herod demanded. Matthew 2.
There is a Book called, "First Christmas, Historical Facts and Investigation of Evidence" by Ralph O. Muncaster was an atheist and argued on anthropology, molecular biology and physics. He is from the University of Colorado. He did a very comprehensive study and used only 28 pages to make a convincing argument about Christmas! Hope tis helps you.

Actually the B.C and A.D used in the calender was developed by a monk Denis the Short who taught he had fiqured out the year that chrsit was born but in fact according to events in the bible king herod orded the massacre of the children 2 years and uder..u no the story...and according to Flavius, a historian, Herod died in the year 4 B.C which means jesus must have been borned before herod died..so jesus was actualy born in the christian era of B.C.. there is confusin because Denis got the date wrong and we never bothered to correct it..if we would have we did be in the year 2002..i think..well hope that helps.

Herod was king till his death @4-5 BC and he ordered all children 4 under to be put to death hoping to have Jesus Christ killed because of fear that Jesus would rise to power and become a powerful king during his life here on earth.
So the most common time of birth is believed to be 7-8 BC as for the month that takes a little more in depth study and a lot more detailed explanation.

Actually, God did not reveal the date or the year when He was born. I guess He knew what a mess we would make of such a holiday.
He might have been born anywere within 6 years of what we think.

The monks changd the calender to revolve around christ birth. A.D. does not mean 'after death". I forget the spelling but it translates to "year of our Lord".
