Yes.

The Catholic Church does not take the stories of creation in the Bible literally. Catholics believe the book of Genesis tells religious truth and not necessarily historical fact.

The religious truth is that God created everything and declared all was good.

The Church supports science in the discovery of God's creation. At this time, the theory of evolution is the most logical scientific explanation. However tomorrow someone may come up with a better idea.

As long as we believe that God started the whole thing, both the Bible and modern science can live in harmony.

With love in Christ.

Read 63 and 64:

"Pope John Paul II stated some years ago that 'new knowledge leads to the recognition of the theory of evolution as more than a hypothesis. It is indeed remarkable that this theory has been progressively accepted by researchers following a series of discoveries in various fields of knowledge' ('Message to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences on Evolution' 1996)."

As long as it increases the Bingo and collection plate take, eventually, a pope will sanction it or sell it.
That's why Martin Luther got fed up with Rome.
Yes, technically, you can be Catholic and believe in evolution. God works in all ways as long as the generate more 'believers' and children of 'believers'.
I'm pretty sure Jesus wouldn't be mailing out rosaries and donation envelopes to atheists like me. You'd think that God would update the Pope's mailing lists once in a while. How hard can that be for an omnipotent being?

You can believe whatever you want to believe. The one thing I truly remember about my nine plus years in Catholic school is that it doesn't really matter. If you are a good person with a kind heart, if you educate yourself, don't judge others...who cares who's right or wrong? I think that since i have grown up I've come to realize that if you believe in God and try and be a decent person, he really doesn't care if you believe wholeheartedly to the teachings. Thats why he gave us free will. Don't be so scared, once you get older and see the world isn't the way we thought it was, you'll accept that there are just some things you have to figure out for yourself.

There is a huge difference between creationist and evolutionist. If you believe in evolution, how come you don't see any humans that are evolving? I am a christian and I believe that God created all things. My answer would be no. All you have to do is read your bible and it will give you all of your answers. there is no where in the scripture that talks of evolution.

You can do that if you want, but Catholicism permits you from believing in any other religion. Also, it seems like your contradicting yourself, you know? Since Catholics believe God created the world, it's odd how they would believe in evolution too.

I don't believe that Catholics can believe in evolution because it was God that created the world and everything in it.
