What would be the point of having a US embassy in the US? The point of an embassy is it handles state and diplomatic affairs in a foreign country - if you're already in that country then you can do it via the courts etc.

You ask the strangest questions. Why would the USA need an embassy within the US? Embassies are established to act as the actual country in another country, not necessarily "overseas" since Canada isn't overseas. (I wouldn't think I'd have to explain the "overseas" part to most other people.)

Excellent question and the answer is an unqualified yes. By definition, an embassy is a diplomatic mission headed by an ambassador. While most missions and embassy facilities are located in foreign countries in which we have diplomatic relations with, the United States Mission to the United Nations is located in New York City and the American Ambassador to the United Nations is currently John Bolton.

No... the point of an embassy is to have a national presence on foreign soil.
A permanent diplomatic mission is usually known as an embassy, and the person in charge of the mission is known as an ambassador. Missions between Commonwealth countries are known as High Commissions and their heads are High Commissioners (although many "New Commonwealth" countries choose the more common terminology in dealing with other New Commonwealth countries; in New Delhi for example there is a Canadian High Commission and a Singaporean Embassy).

No. Embassies house ambassadors who are sent to foreign countries to represent their own countries. Within a homeland there is a governmental system and no need for ambassadors within itself but the ambassadors of different countries are sent to do diplomatic things...
