Well, there are studies by naomi Wolf or Wulf that posit that if you have anything done, it's like giving part of yourself to culture and society. You think you are doing it for your sense of self, but really you're compromising your individuality for a cultural standard. In body politics, you are letting society invade your personal space-what could be more personal than inside your body!
On the other hand, there is a slight stigma, which is a paradox for sure.
Though if you really want to, then go ahead. Just know what you're getting into.

Well, there are lots of things involved.
1. Society - you may be looked at as "fake" person. Everything is bought by money. People may view you as not genuine
2. Medical Malfunction - It is not like everything you wish for will be there. There are lawsuits after lawsuits about malfunction in plastic surgery.
3. Morality, psychologically, Spiritually - this may not affect you. But that give people impression you do not like what God gives you or you just simply do not like yourself.

As long as they're doing it for the right reasons it's fine. Some people get plastic surgery to please others or to make up for the emptiness they feel inside, or they may have unrealistic expectations, thinking that getting something done with drastically improve their life; in cases like this it would be wrong.

its only a big deal when it becomes an obsession.
my sister got a nose job and i was happy for her. but when that person changes their personality as well (ive seen that happen when someone loses a lot of weight, they suddenly become self absorbed and very vain) its bad.

I don't think it is. People should like theirself for who they are, but if they aren't happy with their looks and have money, then they can.
