I've been recently diagnosed with a peanut/tree-nut allergy. My favorite candies have been peanut butter related or made in a factory that processes peanuts. What fast-food should I steer clear from, and what candies and snacks are really good and 100% nut free? I'm having a very hard time with this recent development.

Just ensure you read food labels before you buy. My flatmate has peanut allergies & she's really doing well healthwise, no missing nutrients. I'm sure you can too.

Having a peanut/tree nut allergy can be very serious depending on how allergic you are. My son has this allergy and we have to be very very careful. I read the labels on everything that we buy. Even after we find a food that is "peanut free" and has not been manufactured in a facility that processes peanuts, we read the label the next time we purchase the item as well. This is because we have found foods to be "safe" one time and "not safe" the next. So if anyone tells you a product that you can buy at the store is safe, check it every time anyway. The product can be packaged in different places. You must ask everytime you eat out whether or not a food may contain peanuts/nuts. Steer clear of any fast food places that use peanut oil like Cane's or Chick-fil-A. And don't eat at ice cream from places that serve peanuts in their ice cream. Sonic even has a teeny tiny disclaimer on their menu that says peanuts can end up in any of their foods by accident because they serve them! There are a lot of products out there that you can have, you just have to read the labels and read them every time. Good luck hunting for them. try www.sunbutter.com if you are not allergic to sunflower seeds. They have some good allergy free products.

Read everything before you put it in your mouth. The spicy potato chips are fried in peanut oil, yogurt dipped raisins have ground peanut in them as a thickener. Deep-fried turkeys are fried in peanut oil M&M's also, not just the peanut kind.Cheese nips have nuts, always ask about desserts, there are lots of desserts with peanuts. Things like sunflower seeds are sometimes roasted in peanut oil. Also be careful about restaurants that serve peanuts, you may not be eatting any, but the server or bartender or cook could be dishing them out and have the oils from them on their hands. I wish you luck, I came up allergic to them in 1989. Oh another thing, if you fly, you call the airline 72+hours before your flight and they will remove all peanut based candies and nuts from the plane. That is very important because of their closed air system. Bye,and good luck
