It depends on how bad it's burnt. Sometimes it will stop working completely and other times it will just sound horrible.

Just like a burnt out filament in a light bulb, a burnt out
voice coil will put a speaker completely out of commission.

It depends on how much damage has been done. Burnt voice coil or just singed.
Try this quick test...
With the system turned off...lightly press the woofer in and release it...it should make a slight scratching noise.

A burned out voice coil will barely give sound if at all and be difficult to move in and out. Kind of stuck. If it moves freely and sounds horrible it's blown. Burned from too much power or blown from too much distortion. Those are your choices.
