Do I need to see a dentist right away? I've never had this happen before. Some articles I've looked at seem to suggest that one should immediately contact a dentist, and others don't seem to think so.

See the thing is, the chipped piece hasn't broken off yet, its like the enamel at the top of the tooth is peeling (although that's not quite the right word because peeling implies a softer substance than enamel) back. Its only barely attached at the bottom, but its pretty clear that it will be breaking off soon.

By all means, make an appointment. Your dentist will prbabbly do some immediate 'rescue work' to help you live with it in the short term until he/she can do more restorative work in a week or so.
If it isn't giving you any pain, you should be able to live with it for a short while. It's a pretty safe bet that, if your dentist is of the 'curative' persuasion, you will probably have to undergo some low-level surgery to correct the chip. This may or may not involve local anaesthetic, but be prepared to loosen your bank account just in case. This may be more painful than the treatment.

No it is ok to have a chip in your tooth it happens. It is ok to wait until Monday just as long as you are ok with the way it looks but hey accidents happen.

You will probably want and they will probably suggest that you get a laminate to fix/cover it up. You should be fine after you get that done.

If it is just a chip no worry. If you aren't in any pain then I don't think it is a problem to wait. If you are in pain then I suggest you not wait.
