First, on behalf of our servicemen and women, may I say a sincere "Thank You!"
I am a veteran of the Viet Nam War, and I have personal experience with some of the Service Organizations.
These are only my own personal biased opinions based on my knowledge of what they were like then, and the "Grades" I would give them.
American Red Cross-----D. They keep a larger part of every dollar than any other organization. They also charge exorbitantly for all their services. (When I went on my Rest & Recreation leave, my parents wanted to wire me $100. The Red Cross wanted $25 to provide this service.) They also charge for every unit of blood, either in cash or a blood donation in kind.
U.S.O.-----------B. Being an organization directly charged with providing benefit to members of the Armed Forces, this would be a good choice. Your only problem might be finding exactly where your contribution should be delivered / sent.
The American Legion / Veterans of Foreign Wars, etc.-----A
These groups are made up of veterans, and most local posts operate programs like this, especially around the Holidays. Just find the one in your area.
Salvation Army----------------------A. They are unselfish and giving of their resources and energies to help Servicemen and Servicewomwn in every way they can.

If you want to send a package to Iraq for the US Military, contact the American Red Cross.
However, get assurances from the Red Cross that your donation will be specifically for the US Military in Iraq or other combat zones. This is very close to Christmas. Thousands of people are donating from around the world.
Specific example: My Christmas gift to a child through the Christian Children's Fund had to be sent by October 1, 2006 to be certain that the monetary gift would arrive before Christmas.
Another example: Last year I had planned to send a three pound package to Asia prior to Christmas...UPS and Fed EX would have charged $ 60.00 USD in shipping fees. So, I sent cash through Western Union.
Merry Christmas in advance.

war isn't a trip. particular needs could be bought via the PX or grant channels. in case you as a kinfolk member are worried, then call your congressman or senator and locate out why your infantrymen at the instant are not being presented. cause them to in charge for his or her strikes and votes. Be proactive.
