We have just recently got a kitten. We've had up to two other animals in the house before and she didn't do this then.

The best way to potty train animals is by denying them your company.

Show your cat the poop (dont rub its nose in it because its cruel and non-effective-dont hit your pet either, they hate that!) then take your cat with food and water and put them in a bathroom or garage for three hours. This may take a few times, but it works and it is humane!

Remeber- when you let your cat out of kitty jail, give it lots of love. This way it will remember how important they are to be in your company!

My friend had this issue. Also a kitten. She had the litter box right in her room, but the cat would just poop on the floor.
Here's the possiblities.
1.) Your cat could just be "picky"
2.) Does your kitten only pee in the litter box? If so you should try to get 2 litter boxes 1 to pee in 1 to poop in.
3.) Try moving the litter box
4).Have you cleaned where he went with an enzyme cleaner?
5.) Do you have other cats?
6.)Your cat just might want it's own place to go to the bathroom at.
7.)Maybe you are emptying the litter tray too often the cat needs to recognice his own smell for a litter tray to work so you do clear off poops daily but do not clean the tray every day only once a week then he/she recognises it's their and will go there.
8.)I would make sure you put the litter spot in a very private area. I have a cat that will not use his litter box unless he has 100% privacy, this includes humans and his buddies watching him. I have our litter box in a hallway closet and I keep the door slightly cracked. A roof/lid over the litter box can really help too. If you don't want to buy a lid you can place a large box over the top an cut a doorway for him.

If none of theses work I would suggest to go to a vet. There could possiby be something wrong with he/she.

Good Luck!

How many litter boxes do you have? for cats you really need however many cats you have +1, so if only two cats you'll need at least 3 litter boxes. Also you might try using different litter in one box to see if there are preferences, however don't change brands around a lot once you have some that they like just keep those two or three consistently in the house. Cats also become much more picky about a clean box when new cats are introduced so make sure you're scooping once or more a day.

To clean it up make sure you're using something just to remove cat waste, because if she can still smell it she'll want to keep going there. You might have to put a litter box over the spot temporarily to get her retrained.

Since you have gotten a lot of smart *** answers, I will give you some good advice. Try putting a cat box in your room. One thing you might want to do is clean your carpet, the kitten will go where it smells the last poop or pee. I am 43 years old and have had cats most of my life. Hope this helps.

1) One thing I learned - my cats only would use a certain Brand of litter so, try changing brands of litter. 2) 3 or more cats and I had to provide additional litter boxes put in different places. 3) I use a cat Repellent Powder that I sprinkle around the room where needed and they stay away from that area. Repellent: In a sealed plastic bag . . .
Cayenne Pepper 1oz
Powdered Mustard 1-1/2 oz
Flour 2-1/2 oz
Shake together several minutes being careful not to inhale the dust or get in your eyes. Sprinkle where desired.

The book 'The Character of Cats' goes into why cats do this and how to make them stop, so I would really recommend you read it, but a simple thing that might work is, after thoroughly cleaning away the smell, spray the area with something that smells strongly of lemons, just lemon juice if possible. Cats hate the smell of citrus fruit and don't like to go near it. By the way, you can rub a cut lemon on furniture to stop them scratching it.

G'day Miss Lady404,

Thank you for your question.

I assume that she has been toilet trained. She is probably doing this over anxiety about your new kitten. I would speak to a vet about it or animal trainer.

My understanding is that it is best to introduce the new kitten to your cat slowly in a way that your cat doesn't feel threatened. Allow your cat to keep in her own space at first and have the new kitten in its area and gradually increase the amount of time that they spend together so that each is comfortable.

Seasons greetings to you, your family and cats.

How about keeping the door closed, that usually works for me.

Of course, I don't own a cat, and you've given me one more reason why not to!

Seriously, tho, I think the cat's a-poopin' in your room because you brought the kitten home--cat's are kinda funny that way, they have ways to get back at you.

Next time your cats poops in your room, try scooping the poop and placing it in her litter box. I know it's gross, but cats orient by scent, so once she smells the poop in the litter box, she will be more likely to continue pooping there. Try it.
