Problem is it is never cheap -- its an expensive way to buy a few cases of wine in the future.

Iknow some people who do this andthey enjoy visiting the winery every year to pick up their wine, but if the recipients of your gift arent willing to travel there, then check its possible to ship the wine to the. You don't say where you are, or where in the world you want the vineyard to be.

Have a look at WineShare, who were the first people inthe world to do vine rentals -- http://www.wineshare.co.uk/about.asp and 3D wines -- who the people I know rent from http://www.3dwines.com/the-wine-experience/become-a-vineyard-partner.html

I wasn't aware of the possibility of renting the purchase of vines at a vineyard. The rental agreement would indubitably include a clause specifying that the goods be returned in the original condition. This then means that the idea of these being regarded as a gift, a present, would be nullified.
