We kept it simple at our wedding.
The menu was:
Sausages and mashed potatoes with onion gravy.
That is all.
Simple food, done well. Everybody loved it.
All the best.

I love the idea of a dessert reception: ice cream, cakes, pies, pudding...basically anything sweet. Reception food is usually just so-so anyway, but nothing beats dessert.
As wedding favors, you could give chocolates or some other sweet with a personalized note (depending on how many guests you're having and how much time you have before the wedding).
I would have loved to have a dessert ceremony but you really need to have it at a time when your guests will have already eaten (and make sure you include on the invitation "Dessert reception to follow)". We are having people come in from out of town and an afternoon wedding seemed to make the most sense so that they could have time to drive home. But, I hope it works out for you!

What's your budget? I suggested this to someone else on here...
If you have a limited budget, do a large assortment of appetizers, a champagne punch and soft drinks or cocktails and then do a dessert bar and wedding cake.
Or
Do a buffet with 2 or 3 salads, 2 pastas, 2 entrees, breads, etc
then just wedding cake
Or
Do a nice, light wedding brunch- omelette bar, breakfast items, pastries, champagne and oj, wedding cake
Or
Do a family style dinner- 2 entrees/2 sides passed around the table (people rarely do this but sometimes it's a nice touch for a small wedding) and wedding cake

Depending on your budget you can have different options. If you are low on money you can do a buffet that could include: brisket, mashed potatoes, gravy, etc. You could also do a Mexican buffet. This would include: enchiladas, beans, Spanish rice, tacos, and some type of veggie. If you are not low on your budget, you can serve a side salad before the meal. For the main meal your could do Lobster or Shrimp Alfredo. You could also serve Lamb Chops, garlic and herb in-crusted potatoes, and fresh vegetables. Personally at our wedding we had a buffet. We served brisket, mashed potatoes, gravy, fresh vegetables, also we had enchiladas, Spanish rice, beans, menudo, tortillas, side salad, white bread. We combined things that we knew people that were invited would like.

Im getting married in June, and my father is paying for the reception, and one of the things he stressed that he wanted, which was totally fine by me.... was a buffet style menu. Like pastas, chicken, noodles, ect, ect.... so everyone gets what they like!! If you talk to your caterer, they will probally be able to help out and give you some ideas on that stuff!
Good luck! Hope I Could Help! :)

My spouse is Polish-American, so we had kielbasa, pierogies, plus some pasta for my Italian history. i think of perhaps stringbeans, too? Throw in cheese & crackers for the duration of happy hour, Italian cookies and a cake later, and all and sundry stated it replaced into the fullest they have been at a reception. good for lining a abdomen previously eating! plenty greater effective than tiny chicken, no hors d'oevres for the 1st couple rounds...

An appetizer selection, as well as a salad and/or soup is a good choice. For the entree, try to have a few choices, a chicken or a seafood and a beef. If you have any vegetarians on your guest list, try to make special considerations for their menu.

depends on if you are having a buffet or a sit down dinner. If it is a sit down you can have anything you want, it won't much matter but if it is a buffet you want things that are bite sized and easy to handle. If you are having it catered the caterer can make suggestions if you tell them what sort of affair you want to have. Congratulations and Good Luck

veggie trays fruit trays both with a dip you could always have nuts and mints with maybe some choc. covered strawberries you really need to determine your budget and head count as well the time of year for availability of certain foods you might want to consider the time of day are your guests looking to be feed or are they just going to snack
