why do people continue to adress the issue of abortion through the eyes of religion when abortion has NOTHING to do at all with religion?

Yes, it is a sin because it is against God's law and against God's word. (see Answer above) It is also not what God wants for you. He wants you to be happy, and having an abortion will not make your life better...it will make it worse. Abortion breeds misery. It will be forgiven by God, but only if you are truly sorry and repent. The fact that you KNOW that it is wrong NOW makes it a tough sell to God. God knows your true heart...you cannot hide anything from Him. Also consider how you will feel down the road of life...the guilt is a horrible thing...I know, I had an abortion in 1989 and it's the worst thing I've ever done. It is truly torture to know that you could be capable of such a horrible thing, and the guilt only gets worse when you DO decide to have children. It is only then that the true gravity of what you've done becomes apparent.
Up until 1990, women could only rely on the abortion industry and this pro-abortion government for information about abortion. Their pathetic excuse for "informed consent" included no mention of the baby at all! Women were led to believe that a fetus was a cluster of cells, a mass of tissue that didn't resemble a human being at all...it was important to do that because a mother who chose to let her baby live didn't have a reason to give them any money...But since the internet and the development of sonogram technology, pro-life groups have had much more success getting facts and pictures out there that deliver the TRUTH to mothers about abortion. And it seems to be working. Abortion rates have steadily decreased every year since the internet became available to more and more people. I believe that ANY mother who views these facts, photos, and videos would change their mind about getting an abortion.
So, aside from God's judgment, which is a constant and unwavering truth, visit these sites for un-whitewashed information about abortion and see if you still feel the same way about it.

Sounds like you're in a tough spot. I believe that abortion is a sin. I have some Bible verses that would back that, but can't think or find them right now. I think that the very fact that you have to ask should prove it's a sin. I believe, and I was raised as a Baptist too, that anytime you have to ask yourself if something is a sin it is. The little voice that makes you ask is the Holy Spirit talking to you. Also as a father, I can't tell you how much you will miss by choosing to end a pregnancy...nor as a man could I tell you what it would do as a woman to or for you. Life is precious though, why not give it a chance.

If you are a Baptist Christian-then you know-ask your pastor what he or she thinks. I will also insert part of an answer that I gave on another post.
I believe that it is murder.
12 years ago I convinced a mother not to proceed with an abortion-her offspring a beautiful young girl is alive and well today. I visit with her quite often-just the thought of her not being here today.....
ps something that I thought of last night was pretty neat:
Why not let the unborn fetus live and and let (him)(her) decide on wheather or not to have the parents executed?
pss just a thought-it is customary to ask for forgiveness (after) a sin has been commited with Godly sorrow and repentence
supposed you died during the abortion.
to be sure it is a sin-please do not abort this baby-there are other options available-- I am living proof- I was adopted myself.

Yes it is a sin, but yes you would be forgiven if you asked. Now, that doesn't mean that just because you know that you will be forgiven for something, that you should go out an do it. That is not what Christianity is about.
I think it is great that you are a Christian, but I think that you could benefit from some religious training. We all can. Christians should never stop learning about our Lord.
And if anyone can claim to be a Christian, and can tell you that nonsense that I just read in 2 of the other answers, that it is not a sin and that the Bible doesn't say it is, well they are severly being mislead in their beliefs. It does say it in the Bible. Of course, not in the words "DONT HAVE AN ABORTION.", but yes it does. I grew up in a religious household, with a very, very, religious father, who has studied the Bible inside and out for as long as I can remember, and I don't care what these supposed other Christians are telling you, it is a sin. They want to pick and choose what parts of the Christian religion that they follow and believe, and that is NOT what our religion teaches. You are to follow all of it, not the parts you agree with.

First, You need to seek help. These are very big questions and you should not face them alone, or with the strangers on this board. Get some counseling. Planned Parenthood has services based on you income, so you can afford it. Talk to your parents and mature friends. If the father is a mature person who you trust then discuss it with him after you have got sound council elsewhere. But if you have any doubts about him than wait till you have made up your mind.
Second, the choice to have a child is a choice, not a sin. It is your choice and you need to consider all the factors in your life. Don't let others think for you. Abortion is a difficult and emotional choice and has risk. Raising a child is an very difficult choice, and adoptions are not easy. You should consider all the options in light of your personal situation.
You need to decide, abortion is not a sin. In my opinion "sin" is doing what is not right for you. Please, talk to someone today. Ignore the static from the other post and seek some help with a very difficult life changing choice. You shouldn't have to go at this alone.
To all the folks posting links to pictures and preaching their personal beliefs not found in the bible, please this a young woman with a difficult choice. Please, please don't make it more difficult with your politically charged personal opinions. Help her! Don't post links to pictures and preach! Have some compassion.
You folks should consider the word of this song:
Mary got pregnant from a kid named Tom who said he was in love
He said don't worry about a thing baby doll I'm the man you've been dreamin' of
But three months later he said he won't date her or return her call
And she sweared god damn if I find that man I'm cuttin' off his balls
And then she heads for the clinic and she gets some static walkin' through the doors
They call her a killer, and they call her a sinner, and they call her a whore
[CHORUS]
God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in her shoes
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to choose
Then you really might know what it's like [X4]

Murder is a sin so the big question is at what point does the division of cells constitute human life ? Late stage abortion is unquestionaby killing !! Babies born at this stage have survived and gone on to lead normal lives. Dont for one second think that these abortions dont cause severe pain. The nervous system is well developed and it must be agony. I suppose there will be a torrent of negative responses to this !

Abortion is a sin. As to God forgiving you, and as I hate abortions and would like to say nothing more then no He will not, I know better, Because He will forgive you for all but the one unforgivable sin, and that sin is when you have pushed away the pleadings of His Holy Spirit until you no longer can hear God calling, then how is He to forgive you when you no longer have the desire to hear His voice or be forgiven, that is the unforgivable sin.

An abortion is murder, no questions about it. I don't care how far into the pregnancy it is. Though, if you really do regret doing it and are repentant, then yes, I believe God would forgive you, just try not to make a practice out of aborting haha. Protection is the responsibility of BOTH parties.

1) Baptists are Christians, so you can say you are a Baptist.
2) how do you know that He forgae you for your premarital sex?
3) abortion is a sin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are having your unborn baby, God's creation, killed. God put a soul into your baby the moment he/she was conceived. It is a human being. Just because it isn't outside of your body doesn't mean it isn't a human. God may forgive you for it if you are TRULY sorry for it and will never do it again and will continually do penance for your sin. But there is no reassurance to that until you meet Him on judgement day. Abortion in murdering a human that God created. It is a grave sin.
4) You can't keep sinning and say you're sorry and presume you are forgiven. The words "I'm sorry, please forgive me" isn't enough. You have to stop sinning!
5) will your aborted baby forgive you for killing him/her?

Look at the pictures of these babies that had heartbeats and was alive just like you and me, the answer will be easy for you: http://lifesite.net/abortiontypes/
Will God forgive people for it: yes, but it would be so much easier to not do it in the first place. I remember seeing a special on TV where cameras followed a sperm until it met with an egg and became a baby. Well as soon as the sperm went inside the egg the two became one cell and it started beating with life immediately! The little thing was beating like it had a heartbeat already, because a soul was in it, it was alive from that first moment!
