real absinthe is extremely illegal in the US due to its wormwood barrel aging. If you go to a bunch of high end liquor stores, however, you will probably be able to find the US legal version which bears a strong resemblance.

Just for reference, true absinthe literally degenerates your brain. As stated earlier, the wormwood it's aged in is EXTREMELY toxic.

But, due to its high alcohol content mixed with other, more cereberal effects, it does have a funny saying to go with it.
"Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder"

If he's european then pick him up a decent bottle of scotch. Most people have strong preferences, but a bottle of sherry aged glenmorangie would do nicely and would only elicit a complaint from a fool.

As far as I know, the only place to get REal Absinthe is from Europe....there aer pl;aces that sell it over the internet from the Czech republic (although there is the possiblity of it being confiscated in customs).

True Absinthe (containing wormwood distillate) is illegal in the states. You'll have to have some help getting it here...

It's availabe to purchase in my bottle shop here in Melbourne Australia. It's a BIG bottleshop.
