You can export a car from the US. I am assuming it is to Canada, otherwise the costs would be enormous.
I suppose you have your reasons. If you think it is cheaper to buy the car there it isn't.
You need to make sure the the emission controls on the car meet the countries standards. as well as any other mandatory features that vehicles are required to have.
You must have a bill of sale, safety certificate, and proof of ownership.
The best way to go about it is to contact a Customs Broker. They will have all the documents, required by customs. If you just show up with it at the border, without the paperwork you will be turned away.
You will pay the taxes, customs charges, registration fees etc to the broker, everything will be done before you bring in the car.
You will need to make sure you have insurance and plates on the car also. The dealer may let you borrow a plate. The dept of mote vehicles also has a temp plate for those kind of things. and interim ins is available at most auto ins firms.
It's lots of paperwork and expensive.

Ignore the first post, he's TOTALLY clueless! GIs do this EVERY DAY when they are posted overseas! I've personally done it TWICE! In fact, all of the US manufacturers sell to GIs directly at many overseas locations. Neither the dealer nor the factory gives a care in the world what you do once you take delivery of the car and drive it off the lot.

Whether or not you'll be able to do that depends upon the laws of the country that you're shipping the car to. Some countries do allow non-conforming USED cars to be imported. The UK is an excellent example of one. As long as you take delivery outside the UK and can get it through the MOT safety inspection (RHD drive is not a factor) you can import it permanently. Conversely, Australia restricts imports of all vehicles that are not RHD with exceptions granted for certain classics over 20 years old. Japan prohibits the import of any vehicle not originally built to Japanese specifications from model years 1976 onwards.

There is no bar in US law, or by any US manufacturer, to shipping a car out of the country as long as the destination is not on the State Deparment list (Cuba, N Korea, Iran, etc.) and you have legal title to the car.

good luck. I work at A chevy dealer and if we get caught selling a car to someone who is shipping it out of the country, we will lose our franchise with chevrolet. No manufacturer will let you do it. You would have to contact the manufacturer directly to see how. That is very dangerous ground that dealers won't tread. Sorry
