Every ambulance I have seen in the United States was a Ford. Why not Dodge?

You will find many Ford ambulances because Ford has choosen to pursue that market and manufactures several different vans, trucks, chasis cabs and chassis with the ambulance market in mind. The ambulance prepped vehicles are manufactured with much stronger components to carry all of the additional weight of the body and gear carried in it. The ambulance chassis have heavier springs, bigger brakes, heavier tires as well as heavy duty transmissions, heavy duty cooling systems, heavy duty electrical systems with higher output alternators to run extra lights and gear, extra wiring pre-run for electrical devices, extra engine oil cooler and so much more. Ford also makes similar modifications on its Crown Victoria which is why you see so many Ford police units. This is a marketing strategy that is working despite all of Fords other problems. It is a very lucrative market and Ford has its teeth in deep! Also note that if you look at the warantee tag on many Ford trucks and vans there is a disclaimer regarding converting to an ambulance. If it is not rated for ambulance duty the tag says it will void the warantee. Hope this helps, Hawkrod

If all ambulances are Fords, it's because Ford is the only company who chooses to make them.

ford is the only american car company to still make ambulances. there are companies that buy trucks from both ford and chevrolet as well as chrysler and international and make them into ambulances, school buses, etc.
