It depends on what your speakers are rated for. It should say on the back of the speakers themselves an RMS value and a peak value. That will tell you how powerful of an amp you'll need to drive them. Just giving us the size doesn't tell us enough. I've seen 100W 10's and I've seen 1000W 10's. It all depends. Hope this helps!

It depends on the type of speaker, but you always want more wattage than less when powering speakers. Underpowered speakers cause the amp's gain to turn up higher to get the same sound pressure level (spl), and results in clipping the audio signal. A distorted signal will blow a speaker more often than one that is overpowered.

A good idea is double the RMS rating of the speaker, and that's the amount of power you want your amp to put out (RMS not Max).

First of all, it's not a matter of how much power the speakers need as much as it is a matter of not exceeding what they are rated for and damaging/destroying them. Check the speakers themselves or the paperwork that came with them when you purchased them. If you get them used or with the car, try to identify them by brand and model. If you can do so, I would think the company would be able to tell you what the maximum rating is. One stereo expert I talked to told me that you don't want to push more than about 80% of the maximum power through the speakers or sound quality will start to suffer, so keep that in mind. Good luck!

Your amp should be capable of producing at least twice the power rating of your speakers (RMS or root means squared). If you crant it up too far with either an under or overpowered amp, you are gonna nead new speakers (and possibly a new amp) really quickly.

Really depends on the speakers, they are all rated for diffents wattage, and what kind of sound quality you are looking for.
