maltese are classified as a hypo allergenic dogs so if you have allergies they are great , both are very social , but i have noticed that as the poms get older they do have more of a temperment against strangers they are very protective of their house and owners , socializing both while young is great for both. both will require some grooming mainly heavy brushing on your part b/c both can mat easily

they are both VERY hyper active dogs, and they both bark ALOT. but i think theyre both, for the most part, pretty good dogs. i noticed someone mentioned the maltese is a hypoallerginic dog, which is VERY true. but theyre high maintainence. their hair tangles very easily, so grooming is a MUST. also they are sometimes prone to more skin problems. i'm a groomer, and alot of the malteses we had, seemed like very "fragile" little dogs, like i mentioned skin problems, and lots of seizures....the pom i think is alittle sturdier. they too need to be groomed. they have a VERY thick under coat, in other words, they SHED. BUT, if you brush them a few times a week, they should be pretty well off. other than that, grooming isnt as important with them, cept for the occassional feet trimming. plus, because of the coat they have, you can do all kind of REALLY cute little hair cutes on them... teddy bear/puppy cuts, lion cuts...SO CUTE. they make wonderful apartment dogs, the maltese AND pom...which do "I" like better? i would have to choose an female, fawn (color) pom pom. lol...theyre so cute....i'm sure i left out a few things...but i hope that helps...

my mom has a Pomeranian and she barks ALL the time...She is very loving and they are very good tempered dogs, but she can be very loud. I would go with a maltese, I think that they ar better. If I was going to get one, I would want a maltese.

I am not a small dog person but if I were to get a small dog it would be the Pomeranian. I think they are way cuter and less tempermental. My friends have both and I love their Pomeranians, they seem sweeter and they seem to have a more affectionate personalities, also their coats are easier to manage. In all my years of experience with dogs I like the males personalities better they are more affectionate and not as testy as the females.

for me it would be a Maltese. they don't bark alot and have a very good temperament and the best thing about them is they don't shed.pom poms shed massively year round, and are not know for have a good temperament, they don't like strangers and can be very vocal. if you have children i would think twice about getting either of these breeds. children like to play with there dogs and these are not good play dogs for the most part.
