I Have Been waiting for the local garage to get this part for about a Month, they keep saying its on back order. I hate to take it to the dealer you know your going to pay way to much, however I`m seeing little choice, anyone know about what it would cost at the dealer. Whats a fair price?

you're not going to get a fair price buying the part from your garage. if it's taking so long he's probably waiting for one of his friends to deliver a stolen module and they're having trouble finding one that works. so many people don't use them, then when they do go to turn it on after a year not using it it goes.

That part is expensive. I have a neighbor with an 02 Explorer and 4x4 issues. If there is a code, it is recorded in the GEM( Generic Electronic Module). I'm wondering how it was determined that you needed a new module. There are very few scan-tools that can read the codes or get into the module.

Anyway, to answer your question, I was quoted $175.55 buying it through my company. Don't be surprised if it is replaced and the problem you are experiencing with your 4WD comes back. If you are experiencing the 6 blinks of the 4wd low/high lights on the cluster, this will not solve your problem. The only way to determine if the module as bad is to not be able to access it using the proper scan-tool. If you are confident this is the problem, here is a place to get it.

I would NOT throw in junkyard parts into my 02 Explorer especially when it relates to modules because of upgrades that might have occurred thought the model year or currently and possibly getting the wrong module for the 4wd/Awd setup you have.

Is this "garage" SURE that your vehicle NEEDS a 4X4 module? What is the problem? I love it when people have this perception that "the dealers charge way too much". What people don't realize is that when you take your vehicle to the dealer service department, you get your vehicle fixed right the FIRST time. Not, a small place where "garages" will just "throw parts at it" at YOUR expense, until the problem is fixed, which ends up costing MORE than it would've if you took your vehicle to the dealership in the first place. A 4X4 module is NOT going to be cheap I guarantee you that much. The fact that it is on back order should be your first clue. Obviously, that part is seldomly sold, which means they seldomly fail. Hope this helps.
