I grew up in New Jersey and recieved my driver license there. In 1989, my license was suspended due to too many traffic violations. I was in the military mostly stationed overseas and in the south. I had a Virginia driver license the rest of the time I was in the Navy. I recently moved to California and was denied a driver license because of the suspension. I called the DMV in New Jersey and was told to pay the fines for each ticket, plus the fines and penalties for the DMV. Unfortunately, I am retired and disabled. I also am on a fixed income and cannot pay the $ 4000.00 plus dollars it will take to pay this off. Does anyone know what I can do about this short of just to give up and not drive for the rest of my life?

write a letter to the california dmv and ask them to prove your suspended license, and it was really you. if they can't, tell them that your going to sue for discrimination.

Unfortunately you will have to pay the fine in NJ in order to get your CA license. New Jersey may work with you about paying it over time. If they do, just don't miss a payment or you won't be able to do it again. They will demand you pay them all at once in order to get the suspension lifted. If/when you do pay it off, there is a restoration fee that you will have to pay to have your license reinstated. Just because you pay the fines off, does not mean you license is valid. You have to restore it first. Right now, I believe the fee is 100.00 over and above the fines. And I am pretty sure you have to do it in person!

Stallion may have a good idea about contacting the VA, they may be able to help you. But whoever/wherever Gary is seem to have misunderstood your question. Unfortunately you got the tickets, you have to pay the fines. I wouldn't try to lie my way out of it, it could cause you even more problems and fines..and then you won't be able to drive for the rest of your life!

The only way you are going to get your license back is by paying the fines ~ start saving!
