Churches get really "club-like", and people do forget what they are doing there. Human nature, is what I think it is.

Oh yes, but it's not okay to refuse to volunteer either the trick is to get the right balance. When a person agrees to do something because volunteers are so few and far between , often they are asked to do way too much for one person and they end up getting real bitter and they start falling away from God. Then because they do not know how to backtrack without hurting feelings they become morose and pretty soon you have the feeling that they would stay away totally if they could. That's one thing. The other thing is alot of Churches have started pushing a faulty theology, I think, and that is that we are no longer the Bride but, God himself and that's just wrong.

Because that is what religion is all about, God & religion are two different things, religion is bad - God is God
Church is bad, religion is Bad - God is God
People want to show off that new dress, or how much thy help someone or how fast they can find a verse, or how they think the Church of England never changed the bible, make fun of the ugly people, how they wish the rapture would come so they could stand at the pitt and say SEE I TOLD YOU SO.
Just stop going and find a new group of friends.

Yes- good question!! Many times I feel too selfish for not doing more in my church...but I have at times felt like I needed someone at church to know I am still walking with the Lord, usually when I havent gone to church in 2 weeks or whatever...which is so lame of me. God knows my heart and that is ALL that matters!! So yes, even I have tried to impress someone at one time- and I knew it and I felt horrible....But as far as getting caught up in church- I have not done that. Like I said I need to be actually volunteering to do more there....

Hit that right on the head didn't you? No church is a substitute for Christ. Though many of them act as though they are Christ, annoying isn't it? Its supposed to be a place to worship and commune with like minded people yet that is often forgotten.

Pride.
The enemy uses it against us at every opportunity.
When I serve...I pray for Him to use me and to do His will. I ask for Him to speak through me and I will be His willing vessel.
I am humbled He would use me...but He does. I am blessed that He has shown me my purpose to further His kingdom. When someone thanks me for blessing their life or for ministering into their lives, I give God the glory and let them know, I'm just a willing vessel.
I am not looking for my reward here on earth (although I am blessed) I prefer to save my reward for when I get to Heaven.
When we seek reward here on earth, that is all the reward we get.
What I want most, is to hear Jesus say..."Well done, my good and faithful servant." That will be the topping on the cake!
I'm sold out for Jesus!

the church is the body of christ
based on the saying: before you bring your sacrifice to the temple, make sure you are right with your brother.
or the other saying: if you do not love your brother, how can you say that you love Jesus?

Because there is no Christ, so you get caught up in everything else about the religion.
