I completely understand. I have a huge fear of needles also. When I got pregnant, I needed a blood test. There wasn't a whole lot I could do about it since the blood needed to be drawn. My advice is close your eyes and do some yoga breathing. It would help if someone went with you to talk to you while you were getting blood drawn, this would distract you a little. What they are going to do is tie a band around the top part of your arm. Then, they will draw the blood from around the inside of your elbow (most likely). I won't lie, the needle will sting when it goes in. But after that, you don't really feel it. Just try not to think about the needle while the blood is being drawn. I would tell you not to be too worried, but having a huge fear of needles myself, I know that it is pointless to say that. So, instead, know you are not the only one out there who is scared. :)

I fully grasp your worry - I HATE needles too, however a blood experiment rather is not that large of a deal. You will pass to the lab or the dr's workplace and a few very great nurse will aid you via it. Let the nurse recognize that you're worried and they'll be additional sympatheitc. Here's what occurs - they tie a small piece of rubber tubing round your bicep after which they take a rather tiny needle - no longer so much thicker than a couple of hairs and lightly placed it for your arm - you are going to suppose a pinch - however rather not anything else. Just sit down nonetheless and BREATHE!! Feel unfastened to convey a small 'well success appeal' to preserve directly to or squeeze for reassurance. There is not any factor in cancelling - you certainly want the blood experiment for some thing and if you happen to cancel you'll be able to simply need to get all labored up once more to do it a further time. If you're rather afraid of the pinch that you're going to suppose - pass for your pharmacist at present and ask him/her for a few Emla cream. It's a numbing cream that infirmaries use earlier than needles and small proceedures. You must rub it on a few hours earlier than your blood experiment. You will probably be great - your largest main issue is your worry - no longer honestly the needle. So breathe deep and simply get it over with.

I also have your same fear of needles...and being a guy you get all kinds of kidding about it...even when I used to pass out...here's what helps me...I always ask to lie down...i always close my eyes and take deep even breaths...then I talk to the nurse about anything interesting that pops into my head...before you know it, it's over and you barely felt a thing. A couple more deep breaths and I am able to bounce up and take off.....piece of cake!

Don't worry about it. You are going to be fine.
Some great people who really care about you, and want you to be safe, are going to help you feel safe and snug so you know that nothing will hurt you while they take your blood. Be strong, it will be over in a second, and you'll get to have something sweet for a treat. Focus on that - whoopee! A treat!

I had the same fear...Just close your eyes and let yourself float off to another place - a "happy" place ...Try to forget about what is really happening and remember that it could be worse...it could be a flaming needle being put into your eye !!!

I would ask my doctor about medication to help with my anxiety if I were in your situation.
