I like your question, may God increase us in knowledge.

Firstly, I found all the ayat (verses, signs, reveleations etc...) which include Ummah

[010:047] And for every Ummah (a community or a nation) there is a Messenger; when their Messenger comes, the matter will be judged between them with justice, and they will not be wronged.

[010:049] Say (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]): "I have no power over any harm or profit to myself except what Allâh may will. For every Ummah (a community or a nation), there is a term appointed; when their term comes, neither can they delay it nor can they advance it an hour (or a moment)." (Tafsir Al-Qurtubî).

[011:118] And if your Lord had so willed, He could surely have made mankind one Ummah [nation or community (following one religion, i.e., Islâm)], but they will not cease to disagree.

[016:036] And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): "Worship Allâh (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Tâghût (all false deities, i.e. do not worship anything besides Allâh)." Then of them were some whom Allâh guided and of them were some upon whom the straying was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth).

[016:120] Verily, Ibrâhîm (Abraham) was an Ummah (a leader having all the good righteous qualities, or a nation), obedient to Allâh, Hanîf (i.e. to worship none but Allâh), and he was not one of those who were Al-Mushrikûn (polytheists, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh, and those who joined partners with Allâh).

[021:092] Truly, this, your Ummah [Sharî'ah or religion (Islâmic Monotheism)] is one religion, and I am your Lord, therefore worship Me (Alone). (Tafsîr Ibn Kathîr)

So overall, Ummah means a community or a nation, sharing some common ground. So their are different Ummahs, but all mankind are one Ummah.

Ummah means the muslim community around the world. My husband has been working on an Islamic website called "United Ummah" which is encouragement to all Muslims to stay in touch with your brothers and sisters.

The ummah is all Muslims, the global Muslim family. However Islam also tells you to respect other humans, and in particular it says a number of times to respect other 'people of the book' - the Christians and the Jews. Islam promotes equality between all human beings, however.
