Sounds like a pied cockatiel. Ask the local pet shop manager, or go to the library and get a good book on cockatiels, or see if the pet shop has one. If you want to know the sex, you will have to visit the local avian vet, or the breeder...Birdman

Without having seen a picture, my best guess is that you have a typical Australian cockatiel (all cockatiels stem from Australia). They have grey and white overall on their bodies and wings, with a yellow face, a tall, greyish crest, and warm colored 'rouge spots' on their cheeks.

If he's small and has a comb on top it is probably a cockatiel. But you need to be more specific with your question.

what is? is this a bird? how big? what color beak? is it a parrot? does it talk? where did you get it? how would they not tell you what kind of bird it is? How would you know what to feed it?
