If he is really scratching at it violently then take it off and only put it on him for short sessions when he is eating or playing so that he can get used to it and associate it with nice things. Sfter a few days when you bring it out he'll think - oh game or dinner! goodie! and although he may still scratch a bit at it because it feels strange, you don't need to feel guilty.
Alternatively you can put it on and leave it on - distract him every time he starts to scratch with a game or a cuddle. Its easy to destract a puppy's attention because they have such short attention spans! He'll forget about it completely after about 3 days.
Some pups are more persistent at trying to get it off than others. Watch him carefully because you don't want he to scratch him self bald around the neck or get a paw hooked in the collar! if he is this persistent then you may have to try the first method and get him used to it slowly.
I had a pup once who made a huge fuss for about half a day and then forgot about it completely. I'm glad I didn't take it off him now!
Don't feel guilty! Dogs need to wear collars for their own safety.

Just make sure it is adjusted to the right size for his neck and with a bit of time he will get used to it. No need to feel awful. I am sure that if a child was raised with no clothes and then at age three someone started putting them on the child the child would react the same!
Your puppy is a little child trying to take off what he is not used to. Soon it will be something he won't mind at all, as long as you keep changing the collars or adjusting them to fit as he grows.

dont keep it on him all the time introduce gradually, let him sniff it,when he does give him a treat, keep doing that at intervals during the day after a couple of days put the collar on and treat then take it straight off..again do this at intervals during the day for a couple of days leavin it on longer each time and making a huge fuss of him when the collar is on and when its removed .dont shout if he resists having it on it will take time the important thing is to make having his collar on an excellent experience 4 him and not punishment and in time he will get used to it good luckxx

Don't feel bad, its for his own good. Use a soft collar not a stiff leather one. Distract him when he nags at it, play with him. Just leave it on for 20 mins twice a day. Always put it on just before you feed or play with him and he'll soon learn to look forward to it.

OOOOHHHH ouch. You picked the wrong breed as a pet, hon...difficult to train to do about anything. This is not to say that there are not lots of pits that are great companions, but most sold into the pet trade, for people like you, were bred by breeders who felt the dogs just wasn't going to be mean enough. Pits (Staffordshire Terriers) were bred as fighting dogs. In case you didn't know it, hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent every Friday and Saturday nights in rural America on Pit fights, thousands on just one fight...
So, you are asking the dog to be something is was never meant to be -- a cooperative pet. In my county, you can have your pit spayed or neutered, for free, and give you $20., several hundred pounds of dog food, toys for your dog and free i.d. chip (probably to hunt you down if the critter gets out, and tears up another dog or a kid.) One of my best friends is a vet, and he will put down any staffy or staffy mix for free. And you couldn't give me one with $2000 attached to its colar unless its mouth were duct taped closed, and it in the trunk of my car so I could get it to the vet for the needle. Our county is outlawing the breed as much to get rid of the dog, as it is to get rid of the people who breed them and fight them....we don't believe a dog should be torn up in a ring for the enjoyment of betters!!!
If you keep this dog, any breeder, any owner will tell you to always be on your guard.... they snap mentally, for just no reason.....
