Call your vet immediately. Cats, especially males, can get blockages in their urinary tracts that are very painful and potentially fatal if not treated immediately. It could also be a urinary tract infection but your vet will need to determine that. Feel his bladder to see if it is really big. If so, you have a major problem that needs treated ASAP. Good luck.

My personal opinion is all cats will benefit from a companion, gives them someone to play with when your not there and keeps them more active and sociable, though I realize that's not always possible. That said, so long as you get them fixed a female is fine. Just introduce them carefully, as the male may get jealous. As for the scratching, mine do the same thing its normal for a cat. If he's scratching things he shouldn't, make sure he has things he can scratch, mine like cardboard boxes, and I had a problem with one of mine scratching doors and sometimes people, every time I would catch him I'd trim his claws, not too far, but enough that he couldn't really scratch stuff. After a few times he learned, and now he's fine, doesn't scratch at anything he shouldn't.

Perhaps he doesn't really want to go but is scenting the litter tray. If in any doubt take him to see the vet as he could have a water infection.

Get him to the vet fast he probably has a kidney stone. This can be fatal if left untreated.

If your giving this kitten milk to drink that could be the problem. Cats must have water to drink, milk is bad for them.

it may have a uti. He needs to be checked out by a vet ASAP. Get him fixed while he is there, it's cheap and he will have less problems with his prostate and cancer as well.

Like the other "answerer" said...sounds to me like could be crystals in the urinary tract, a common condition with male cats...it is life threatening, and requires urgent treatment. Please get him to vet asap.
