I stay at home with my 17 month old daughter. I want to try to home-preschool her just for a while. I want to start small such as getting her to learn some colors or objects. Right now she calls everything 'baby', and while it's so cute, it worries me that maybe I'm not doing all that I can for her. She acts like she's getting board with her toys and all she does it pull out her books and goes through them. Any ideas will be helpful, and any tips on how to keep her attention will help also.

I have the NOGGIN channel, but she won't sit and watch it. I read to her every night, but she's ready to be put down after a couple of pages.

If she's pulling out her books try reading to her. Another thing i've found helpfull is to pack away some toys for a while and then pull them back out after a week or so. It'll be like getting new toy's. As for teaching keep it fun. Do projects daily. Start small(with easy things) and work up to bigger (harder things) Give her some big chunky crayons and paper. The next time she calls something "baby" say No thats not a baby thats a ______ (what ever it is) Then show her what a baby is.

Heres one of my favorite websites. Every project here can be adapted for use with multiple skill levels. Sure you may have to do some (most) of the cutting) but she can color and even glue. http://www.dltk-kids.com/

They even have a teaching sections. http://www.dltk-teach.com/

I can not stress enough to Make it FUN. If it's fun then she won't even know she is learning.

Just take her out into the world and talk with her constantly. Right now, she is going to need socialization skills. Find a playgroup, Mommy and me classes or children Music Together classes. Explain everything in detail ( " Oh, do you see that small, brown bird ?, " Would you like a red apple, a green apple or a yellow banana for snack ? " )

My eldest was the same way. Aways with her nose in a book. She is still that way. She is also advanced in her schoolwork now. Don't worry if she seems bored with her toys. Either she's outgrown them or she wants to do something else for a change.

If you have a sound card on your computer (I need a new one) go to www.kiddiesgames.com. They have different games and activities for babies and toddlers. The ABC game my son LOVES. Any letter they hit on the keyboard will pop up on the screen and it will tell them what letter is it. My son is 2 and he is starting to recongnize letters. I work at Mc Donald's at night and he saw the Golden Arches on my work shirt and he said M, and he will be looking at his book and say "A, Apple"
