If you have had symptoms for less than 48 hours, get to your doctor; there is nothing that will STOP the flu, but there are anti-viral medications that will help put the brakes on it and make it less severe. If other members of your family have not yet come down with it, they can take the same medication and possibly avoid it completely.

Beyond that - take decongestants for the stuffiness; Tylenol, aspirin, or ibuprofen for the fever (DON'T taken anything except Tylenol if you are still in your teens, as Reyes syndrome is a risk in teens with viral illnesses). Stick with plenty of rest, and lots of fluids; light meals if you want them, but don't force the issue.

Good luck, and feel better soon.

Just take a crapload of vitamin c. There is no cure for the flu, as I am sure that you know. And if you are that sick, you can't have enough sleep, so go back to bed. How often do you get an excuse to be a lazy slug? Pretty steep price though.

Oh, and for the record, getting a flu shot now won't do jack sh*t. All that does is vaccinate against the most anticipated strain.

Too late for a flu shot. Flu is a virus and you need to let it run its course. You can help your body fight a good fight by getting rest and drinking fluids. A little homemade chicken soup can nourish your body and help in the fight.

If you have to stay active (work, school, etc.) a combination of Vicks DayQuil in the day and NyQuil before you sleep can minimize some of the symptoms, but don't try and get back to 100% until your body is ready, unfortunately 7-10 days.

Over the counter meds for temporary relief. Drink PLENTY of water throughout the day and eat nutritious foods. Your body will have to go the course required to fight the illness. This is it's natural mechanism. Consuming the proper nutirents and much water will help it pass faster.
