If you already have 5 (or 6 or 7) speakers and a subwoofer, all
you need now is a DVD player and a surround sound receiver.

Sony is not my first choice for a receiver, but if you want to keep
the same brand, don't go for the cheap models, and if you can,
go for the ES models for quality sound.

Otherwise, I would recommend Pioneer for your DVD player,
and either Onkyo, Yamaha, or Pioneer Elite for your receiver.

In order for the Surround Sound speakers to work as designed, they will need to be conected to a receiver that has been designed for true surround sound. Simply connecting it to a speaker connection that may be designed for full range speakers ( such as a B room or 2nd speaker setting) may and will "blow" speakers that are not designmed for higher range of outputs. The fronts will typically work in the main speaker ports on the system but the speakers designed for the surround sound, can be rated for less power and the surround sound receivers are designed for just that. If all you have is a typical older stereo system, then only the speakers that are designed to be the main or front speakers will work. The center channel, if your system has one, should work fine, but older stereos that dont have pro-logic circuitry will blow out the rear or center speakers if they are rated for less poweer than what your system may provide. So make sure your speakers, including the front speakers, can handle the output of your sytem. If they are newer speakers, but the stero sytem is older, thay might work fine, but again double check. Hooking a 20 watt speaker to a system thats designed to power 30 watt or higher speakers willblow your speakers quickly.

Another thing to consider is the type of conenctions the speakers or the receiver has. Certain Sony speakers will only work with certain Sony receivers. If the speakers have little modular plugs, similar to a phone jack, they wont work in standard receivers. Simply cutting the plugs off wont help amke them more compatible either.

If you are asking if you can take two of your surround speakers and connect them to your stereo system, then "yes". You may need to buy some different wires or adapters, if your surround sound speakers don't match the stereo system inputs.

If you are talking about connecting all your surround speakers to your stereo system, in order to create a surround sound setup, then the answer would be "no".

In order to have true surround sound, you need to have a surround sound decoder, that usually comes in the form of an AV receiver.
