Please explain to me why someone would put a bumper sticker on their car that says, "In case of Rapture, this car will be unmanned?" Isn't Christianity supposed to be about humility and deference to God? Those Rapture stickers come across as so arrogant and self-centered. Aren't you supposed to allow God to pass judgment rather than passing it yourself? How can you be so darn sure that God will forgive you for all your sins but won't forgive the guy driving the car behind you? It just seems so ungodly. I would think the first thing God would do in case of Rapture would be to smite the arrogant idiots driving around with those stupid stickers on their cars.

I actually saw a giant SUV yesterday at my daughter's elementary school that had both a Rapture bumper sticker and a "Next time you think you're perfect, Try walking on water" bumper sticker right next to it. All I could think was, "Next time you think you're perfect, why don't you think about removing that damn rapture sticker!"

WonderWoman: I didn't say it should be illegal. I just said it's cocky and wrong. And incidentally, my free speech is just as guaranteed as that stupid rapture person's speech is.

People, there's a difference between a Christian fish or a bumper sticker citing biblical scripture and a rapture sitcker. The first two say, "I'm a Christian; this is what I believe." The Rapture stickers says, "I'm going to Heaven and you're going to Hell, and there's absolutely no question about it. And I'm so sure of it, that I'm willing to brag about it to the whole world." It's called disrespect and arrogance. Or do you not understand that concept?

Wonder Woman: Why do you think first amendment rights only apply to you? Are for that "stupid bumper sticker guy", he is stupid by virtue of his arrogant and insulting bumper sticker. I'd say the same of anyone who routinely dismissed anyone and everyone of another faith or creed. And I've done so. Check out my answer below where I got angry with a guy who compared all Christians to an incurable disease. I told him that he was being insulting and irrational and that he was part of the problem, not the solution. Check it out:

Now tell me who's being the hypocrite, WW?

enthusiasm for one's path is one thing... but those bumper stickers promote nothing but smugness. If there were to be such a thing as a "rapture" (not that I'm holding my breath), they'd likely be the last to be invited for the ride.

Despite the association of the phrase with the anti-abortion movement, I don't disagree with the sentiment. To your question, I disagree that the bumper sticker indicates that the person driving is arrogant, and I will add that you read a whole lot into that bumper sticker that isn't there to begin with.

Those really annoy me, too. In fact, I find that whole "Left Behind" series a bit upsetting. I think the people who buy into that stuff have an abnormal need to feel superior to others, probably because they feel so empty internally.

I avoid bumper stickers precisely because I realize how arrogant many of them can seem to the rest of the world. If I were to choose one bumper sticker, however, I'd probably pick the "Coexist" one with all the different religious symbols and such. The only people who could be offended by that one is people who are bigots, racists, and fascists, and I don't mind so much if I offend them.

I don't think they realize how arrogant it seems to other people, even other Christians. Maybe if they read this question and some of the views expressed by others here, including other Christians, about how judgmental and arrogant it sounds, they'll rethink their stickers in the future.

Sweetie, lighten up.

You can always get one that says "When the Rapture comes, we'll have the Earth to ourselves" or something like that.

And, really - I can't object to bumper stickers like that one; I'd be a hypocrite if I did, because I have a religious bumper sticker on my car that says "Thank Goddess!"

This is a pretty small thing to get all worked up about.

That could cause some major traffic accidents! As I've said over & over in here, judge not lest ye be judged. Judgement is the Lord's. If these people believe in rapture, they should believe this.

I think you are taking that too personally. Those that choose to have that on their car may just be proud to show they are Christians. Personally I choose not to display my belief in God on my bumper as I feel it doesn't make me a better Christian because I advertise.

They must be really sure they are going- I never thought of it as arrogant- maybe something to get all to think about heaven- I know it says in the bible that we must forgive others that we may be forgiven- and how you judge you will be judged- the big deal is what God did for us through His son- and repenting and receiving Him a LOrd and savior- and on the road to heaven you go following HIM- take care-D

It's just a bumper sticker. People like to show what they believe.
