Call him or place him beside you and tyhen give him a treat while you pet and praise him for being a good cat. Find a spot on him that he loves to have itched, under his chin, his ears, tummy rubs. Good luck with him.

When he does give him treats, when its cold let him come and see what it feels like under the covers with you. Also my cats love certain textures of clothing. Extremely soft terry cloth seems to attract them the most. Don't force them because that will have bad results, they associate sitting w/ you as something you make them do not something that they can enjoy. If they're young, a year old or less, wait and give it time, it also depends on how close you are to them. My cat will not sit w/ my boyfriend mostly since he's not the one who takes care of him most, even though he started out my bf's cat. Certain cats are also loners, some hate to be held, some like to always have their own personal space etc. They're just like ppl, and can be just as moody. I've also find that cats like or dislike the smell of some people. My mom's cat loves to sit w/ my dad since he works outside most of the time. My mom smells like perfume which can deter them sometimes. Good luck and just find out what your cats like.

Some cats just aren't the cuddly type! He may not ever want to lie down next to you. If he's a new cat, though, he may just need time to get comfortable with you. Let him take it at his own pace -- never force him to cuddle with you, that will only make him dislike it.

Don't force it. Some cats are real loners no matter what you do, others are real cuddle freaks. If you want to try to get it to change its behavior the best way is to bribe it with food. Eventually the cat will associate being next to you with some kind of benificial treatment.
