My sis just got diagnosed with celiac disease, and we don't know a lot about it right now. I've been researching, and looking at gluten free recipes. Some recipes have yeast, and i was wondering if that's okay. We also havent found any cereal. My little sister's having a hard time so please help.

I'm a girl, don't call me a 'good brother' please. I'll accept 'loving sister' and 'very good person' (ya i'm soooo modest) lol

I suggest that you speak to your doctor about talking to a professional health care dietitian. A dietitian can teach you how to read food labels and help you learn what to look for and what to look out for in foods. There can be hidden gluten in foods that may not be listed. A dietitian would be aware of these.

Below is a website that may help you with some of the answers you are looking for. I would advise only using most websites as a guide though, the most accurate and safe way is keep touching bases with your doctor and speaking to a dietitian.

Good luck and God Bless you for helping your sister.

Yeast is fine. 99% of mainstream cereals are NOT GF. Rice Krispies are NOT GF. They insist on putting wheat starch or malt (barley) in it (can't remember which).

The only mainstream cereals that are GF are Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles. That's it. And make sure you read the label, because that can change at any time. Up until a few years ago Corn Pops were GF, but now they're not. I'm hoping they change back at some point.

Other than that, Nature's Path makes some gluten-free stuff. You can usually find at least a few of their products in health food stores, and sometimes even regular grocery stores.

I have ceely-ick disease. Of course wheat barley are totally out of the question. avoid "modified food starch" and "caramel coloring" rice krispies work for me as well as peanut butter capn crunch yummmm.
Its terrible to have to eat steak all the time. *grin*

It takes time and patience to change your diet over. I'm wheat intolerant and have found it hard. Thankfully, there are many places on the web where you can order ingredients and have them sent to you! In my local Coles, we have gluten-free Krispies and museli.

Yeast should be fine. Just make sure you avoid anything with WHEAT. For cereal, check the ingredients on Rice Krispies...those should be OK, as long as there's not any stealth wheat hiding out in them.
