what is the proper way to introduce my spouse to my boss?

The same way you would introduce anybody else you know to someone he/she doesn't know...

"Mr. Bossman, I'd like you to meet my wife, Wifeypoo. Wifeypoo, this is Mr. Bossman."

And I have GOT to say that "lower person/higher person" thing is absolutely ridiculous. If you choose to accept that one person is "higher" than another, that would be YOUR WIFE, not your boss.

Free_your.. is right, but for the wrong reason. In a social situation, the order would be reversed. But the boss comes first if you want your job.

Always introduce the "lower" person to the "higher" person first.

"Boss, I would like to you to meet my wife. Wife, this is my boss."

Use their real names, of course. You can add more information.

"Mr. Smith, I'd like you to meet my wife Jane. Jane, Mr. Smith is the President of the company."
