There is no need for obscenities and filth to create humorous material. I grew up when TV shows were live - no taped material - and such things as curse words and blatant ual statements were not allowed. We still laughed and enjoyed the comedians - Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, and so on - they knew how to make their material funny without filth and obscenities.

I think people do much of it for the shock value. Some of it, I do not even think is funny. You can laugh at many things in life with out all the vulgar language, graphic sexual overtones, and racists words. No, it does not make it right.

NO and its not even funny. I dont see how the world finds nudity and crudeness funny. I find a lot of things funny- but its clean and its still from worldly comedians, but they have clean skits....Check out Brian Reegan-

But yes NOTHING makes it ok to blaspheme....This world has gotten so out of hand- it truly does disgust me.

You are absolutely right.

And obscenities are creeping into other media, not just comedy.

I like to watch pornographic movies. But it is simply awful the amount of curse words you find in them these days. For example, when the mechanic turns up to help the busty young blonde whose car has broken down, you expect him to remove his work clothing and give her a right seeing to. Things can get down and dirty. But then when she starts saying filthy words all the atmosphere is destroyed and I just feel so let down and angry.

Hasn't changed much since the very beginning of comedy, Midge. If you were a little older and less close-minded, you might not be so easily offended.

No, I think they go too far. Not just with the obscenities but some of the humor is very negative.

I think it's funny as heck. I was laughing my butt off last night, watching "Comic relief".

If it's offensive to you, don't watch it. But for some, it's a great form of release.

I so agree with you. It gets really old how people think that vulgar is funny. It is not. Wish we had more like the comedians from before the 80's. The ones back then could be funny and not use foul language. People like Bill Cosby are great though.

i would say that i dont mind it, because the comedians seem to be using it because that is what sells. if you don't like the filth, dont listen to that comedian.
