All 20 answers that precede this one seem to be trivial but I'm assuming your seriously wanting verification and advice about them. Yes they are real and no, if you are labeled schizophrenic, they are not heard by others. Medication helps to get rid of them but they diminish in intensity, number of voices and severity of content with time. If you continue "hearing" them and have not sought professional help, do it now. If they advise bad behavior do not do it.

I used to hear them all the time.
They used to have arguments in my head at night when I wanted to go to sleep.
I used to shut them up by drinking lots of Vodka.
Then I had a year of councilling and now they have gone away.

I really did hear voices and it scared me to death. the diagnosis was major depression with psychotic features. i went to the er and they said see your shrink in 2 days and made my husband babysit me so i didn't hurt myself. now i take a med to clear my mind and make the voices stop. that is 7 meds i now take to keep me in this world. what fun!!!
