Most of these guys are right, it is a V8. The V8 was specifically choosen due to the retro aspect of this car. You have to understand that the Ford GT is really an updated copy of the Ford GT-40 of the early to mid 1960's. The car was meant to relive the glory days when Fort GT-40's were winning every race around the world including a 1-2-3 finsih at LeMans. The GT-40 was built as a Ferrari killer and using American know how and technology, Ford took standard production V8 engines from Ford Fairlanes and Galaxies and modified the daylight out of them to prove that a V8 could beat the high tech V12's and flat 8's that were dominating the sport. Ford was so successful that they dominated the sport within a very few short years. The new GT was meant to be a specialty sport touring car that revived the memory which meant that the car had to retain all of the unique characteristics and flavor of the original which meant it had to be a V8 mid engined rolling piece of art. Hope this explains it well enough, Hawkrod

The Ford GT, the $100,000 super car you hardly ever see, has a 5.4L V8 engine in it.

The much more common Mustang GT has a 4.6L V8 engine in it.

No production Ford Mustang has ever had a V10 or V12 in it. Some fun test cars did though.

It is the same 5.4 V8 as in the 2007 Shelby GT500.
If you would like to see one, I have one on my showroom floor right now....
(I mean the Shelby engine, we already sold the Ford GT, & the Shelby in my showroom is sold as well but I'll let you see the engine if you get here before the owner picks it up!)
