First of all my sincere condolences. Antifreeze is a horrible death.
Secondly, and I don't think you're going to like my response but unless you or someone else actually saw the man give your dog antifreeze, there isn't much you can do. If someone else did see it, they would have to be willing to testify to seeing it.
I'm sorry. I know it's not fair and it sucks. If there is some way you can prove the man gave your dog antifreeze, or the man admits to it, you're probably going to be out of luck.

I am so sorry for the loss of your pet, it is devastating. The best way to protect your animal is to not let it roam; if he got out and this was a one time occurrence , it happens; cars leak antifreeze, are you sure that this was done on purpose?? Did he threaten to do it ?? There is some contributory negligence on your part b/c your dog was loose; if you have proof that this was done intentionally, how about animal control , humane society , they may be able to help you; did your vet have suggestions? I am sure that they probably have resources available. Next , call a lawyer for that free consultation and ask if there is any civil action that can be taken, at least for any vet /burial expenses? Animals that roam can get into garbage and toxic items.

Contact the SPCA in your area and describe what happened and what can be done. There are laws in many states that say if a person wilfully poisons a dog they can be prosecuted. Police often won't bother with a dog poisoning case. Unfortunate but true. It's a bit touchier because the dog was on another person's property and you would have to be able to prove that the dog was wilfully poisoned. Just for the fact that even if it was wilful, the person will likely LIE about it there is likely nothing you can do about this.
It's terrible, I know. Even if your dog got out and that was due to your irresponsibility, poisoning a dog is criminal but has to be proved.

I am so sorry this happened as i went through a similar incident last march with my neighbor shooting and killing my dog because it was eating their catfood. Unfortunately the police in my area would not do anything about it either as they said i have no proof they did it. Do not give up like i did fight with everything you have and do not let this bas***d get away with it. Good luck

This is a very sad story and I am sorry for your loss, but unless you can prove the man deliberately enticed your dog to drink antifreeze there is nothing you can or should do.
How can you be sure he deliberately poisoned your dog?
Did he call your dog over and hand him a bowl of the stuff? or soak a steak in it? If so, call whomever investigates animal cruelty.
If he just carelessly left it out and the dog drank it, then although the man was careless he truly is not responsible for your dog's death.
If you have other pets, please make sure they cannot wander off your property and into anything unsafe.

some issues - substitute into your dogs limited on your sources on the time of the attack? if so, then you definately can combat the destruction order on the grounds that your dogs substitute into limited and the neighbour's dogs substitute into at large. If, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, your dogs have been given onto the neighbour's sources, you could could desire to renounce your self to dropping your dogs. that's extremely no longer likely you're able to get penitentiary time if that's a universal offence - or whether that's no longer. a great is to be predicted, looking on what the cost is. right here, it may be 'possessing a dogs that attacked / killed yet another kinfolk animal', and because you DO own the dogs and it DID kill yet another animal, which would be no longer difficulty-free to combat. Arguing that that's no longer your fault because of the fact the dogs substitute into technically in the care of a 0.33 occasion runs the prospect of moving the subject on your Grandpa, which isn't basic. after all, because of the fact the dogs's proprietor, the duty for the dogs's movements finally is yours. you're able to desire to possibly look for criminal opinion in this beforehand your courtroom date.

that was horrible. I don't know if you know how bad it is when an animal has antifreeze toxicity, but it is NOT a pretty thing. It kills their kidneys in a matter of hours and then they slowly die because they cannot eliminate waste products from their system. Occasionally one will survive but they will have problems the rest of their lives because the kidneys are shot.
You can take him to small claims court. Even though the dog was in his yard, there are still laws about animal cruelty.
If you have proof that it was him, and you had a necropsy done by a vet to confirm the cause of death you should take him to court. And just for future reference you will know to keep all your animals out of his yard.

I would look up the website for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) or some other site like that and see what they have to say. You could try the Humane Society but I didn't have much luck with them when I told them my neighbor was trapping cats and shooting them, even admitting to it! They said I would have to have it on tape, like a video! You could call a lawyer, too, but I don't know how much good it will do. I would call the cops back and tell them you want someone done because that is animal abuse and it's against the law. Good luck and I'm sorry for your loss.

Regardless of whether the dog was on his property or not, that is a felony in pretty much every state. Check here to see about your state:
http://www.hsus.org/web-files/PDF/state_cruelty_chart.pdf
If you are absolutely positive that he poisoned your dog, i.e. witnesses, evidence, you should go from there. Lawyer maybe? Or at least call the humane society in your area.

I fully understand how you must feel. I love my dog and would be enraged if anything like this happened to him. Revenge is not the answer though. I just have no answers for you that you want to hear.
He has to live with what he has done and I am sure he hates himself more than you hate him. People like that always have hate on the inside and this is what kills them in the end.
I would buy about five dogs - loudest ones possible and keep them outside at night. (under safe dog house with no way of getting to eat anything thrown over) then video him trying to kill them dogs. I guess at the very least sleepless nights will upset him.
