I was wondering what types of dogs look like they had their ears cropped, but is natural.

I'm not considering cropping ears. I just got a new puppy from the SPCA, and I'd like to know if his ears are naturally erect, or if they were cropped before. They were guessing that he was part German Shepherd though, so I was unsure.

naturally it is very hard to find dogs with naturally cropped appearance. It does happen but it is usually seen as a fault of development. It doesn't mean anything is wrong with the dog but it does not seem like other dogs of the same breed.

As for the whole "cropping is cruel" thing, so is piercing a child's ears but yet parents don't seem to have an issue with this. Also, if they are so for "the natural appearance" then why do you condone cropping and docking but yet are for spaying and neutering? Talk about a double standard. Yes, I know spaying and neutering is used for "controlling the population" but isn't it unnatural? As far as I know, all dogs are born with either a boy part or girl part.

As for the act of cropping. If it is done at the right time, the dogs do not feel the loss not is there any REAL pain. Yes, there is the sting from teh open wound but not to the point where the dog does not want to move or jump or run. The taping and re-taping IS NOT painful or else the dogs would flinch and run away when doing the act. The hair that is pulled off does not really get pulled off, it falls off. I have been raising dogs with and without cropping and docking for over 30 years. I am also a veterinarian of over 20 years.

Most dogs do not look like they have had their ears cropped if they have not. Someone said a corgi's ear stand, well so does a German Shepherd, and they don't look like their ears have been cropped.

Corgis ears are almost always erect, but your question begs another. Why is that important? Ear cropping is barbaric and done only to serve the purposes of a human - never the dog.
Have you had your own ears pierced? If so you'll know that it is a painful process and that is having only one or more tiny holes punched in. Having whole pieces removed is completely unnecessary, really painful and risky.
The best thing about dogs is there essential "doggieness". What ever breed, size or shape they wag their tails, pee up things (or squat) bark when they're happy, cross or scared, need company, good food, exercise, play and rest. One thing they don't need is for an idiot person to chop off their ears.

most don't naturally look that way. That's why they crop the ears. Most owners don't want to crop the ears, but a few really cruel people have egos the size of Texas, but I think it is the worst thing you can do. The only exception is for show dogs, but even then they are loosening the standards for things like that.

The actual cropping is not that bad, but they have to have them taped for a long time and when they go to the vet to have the tape and posts changed, it is very very painful. The fur on the ear is torn away with the adhesive on the tape, plus the post goes down the ear canal for stability and it gets all nasty down there and can cause ear problems. What a mess. It is very painful for the dog.

If you are thinking at all of doing it, please reconsider.

Plus, it only works on very young puppies. I personally don't like the way it looks. They look aggressive to me, even if they are nice dogs.

No dogs have ears that look like cropped ears-cropping ears is a totally unnecessary cosmetic surgery and there is no reason to put any dog through ot. I can tell you horror stories. Some dogs lhave erect ears-but they still don't look the same as cropped ears
